The MSSC recognises that a healthy and motivated Carer will be able to fulfil their caring role more effectively than one who is unhealthy and de-motivated, and by providing Carers with access to relief time and respite we acknowledge the importance of their caring role.
Centre-based activities take place daily from Monday to Friday and on Saturday morning, and our work to support people with neurological conditions provides Carers with valuable relief time and respite; this relief time can be planned or spur of the moment, reflecting the unpredictability of their role as a Carer, and it gives them the opportunity to be more independent and to participate in activities without the person for whom they are responsible, knowing that that person is being looked after in a safe, secure and friendly environment and is participating in services which are delivered by qualified and experienced Healthcare Professionals.
The range of services available to people with a neurological condition means that they can easily spend a large part of the day at the centre. Our therapists work with people to enable them to regain skills and achieve maximum independence at home. This provides support to Carers as the person they care for is less dependent on them and able to maintain better general health.
The people who come to the MSSC have made a conscious decision to participate, and they can attend when, and as often as, they wish. Neurological conditions can be unpredictable, and this unpredictability can cause great emotional stress on both the cared for person and their Carer.
- the fact that these services are delivered within a structured weekly timetable means that the cared for person can plan to attend at times which suits them, and consequently the Carer knows when they will have some time to themselves.
- equally the flexibility of the service means that an individual does not need to worry about missing a session, whilst also allowing for unplanned relief time should it be required by the Carer.
